the view from the iPhone - Rome, vehicles

Whatever the size of the vehicle, the streets are, or become, very narrow...

of all the drivers and vehicles on this page, the young woman driver on her big bike above was distinct from the rest in aggressiveness. There is, in Italy (and contrary to the nonsense spoken about Italian drivers) generally a generous and sensuous slithering in the way people move their vehicles in small spaces; she was to the contrary.

Driving on the right, driving sensibilities

Driving in Italy is a very different experience from driving in Australia. Apart from small vehicles and small roads (leaving aside driving at 145 on the autostrada and being overtaken by something that may have been a BMW but you didn't have time to check), there is a sensitivity and subtlety and patience, at least in this part of the country. You don't really care a lot about road markings and such, but you do know how to weave. In this photo, I have to get out of San Quirino and back onto the Cassia to Rome, which means go right around the Citroen (which is waiting for you to go round), do not turn at this roundabout, but weave down to the next, turn left in that roundabout and then immediately right, near the blue bus. It is an entertainment. Admire the olives on every spare piece of ground, admire the medieval walls to the right, don't miss out!
